Table of Contents
Services Include
During your personalized one-on-one Skype session, we’ll look at your current website, evaluate your traffic patterns, analyze your online presence, and identify potential problems and areas you can improve.
SEO
Every session is different because every photographer’s needs are different, but here are SEO topics we might discuss during your one-on-one session:
Portfolio Review
Your photography portfolio is the most important area of your website. It’s what visitors see first and dictates whether they’ll engage with your site and convert.
During our one-on-one session, I’ll help you identify your best photos, suggest edits, and critique your website portfolio.
Some issues typically explored include:
I’ve worked with first-year photographers and seasoned professionals and I’d like to work with you too. Let me help you improve your photography.
A strong portfolio is the first step on your journey. If your photographs aren’t well presented or received, your search performance and visitor conversions are compromised.
Branding
Trust, authority, and credibility are key SEO components. However, your website must reinforce the idea that you’re a leader in your field. If your branding doesn’t reflect that ideal, it’s going to be difficult to impress clients and rank for competitive keywords.
We’ll examine website branding, including logos, website design, and color choices, and discuss improvements that can positively impact visitor perceptions.
Copywriting
Do you need help with the textual website content? I can help you craft a better brand message. Website content should:
Stop staring at your computer monitor waiting for inspiration. Give visitors a reason to contact you before they leave your website. Make people love your personality through the written word. Book more clients and make more money. Market your business with the right message.
Competition Images
I can help you save money when you need assistance choosing and editing individual images for competitions. I’m also an expert in curation of image groups when you’re applying for special recognition or for artist in residency programs.
For example, I’ve helped two photographers achieve notoriety after reviewing and curating their wedding photography submissions for Rangefinder Magazine’s 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography. Both photographers were selected, and both subsequently realized a huge career boost after receiving that recognition.
My Approach
During our call, I’ll share my screen and view your website as a first-time visitor. I’ll make real-time observations about areas that need improvement and that will help you achieve better conversions.
Conversions refer to the action you’d like visitors to take on your website. For most of you, that conversion action is that you want people to contact you for more information or to schedule an appointment.
We’ll focus on conversions first. All other tasks are secondary. If your website fails to build trust, engage visitors, and move those visitors toward conversion, then you’ll realize limited successes regardless of how many people visit your site.
Once we’ve examined how to convert visitors, we’ll move on to more traditional areas of SEO. Throughout the session, you should take notes and create your own to-do list.
My Qualifications
I’m a Houston headshot photographer, portrait photographer, product photographer, event photographer, and industrial photographer. I was also the founder of Good Gallery, a company that provided better websites for photographers.
I know SEO and have been building websites and web-based applications since 1995. I’ve owned and sold successful dotcoms and as Managing Director of E-commerce for a professional consultancy, my past clients include Walmart, Dillards, AOL, Conoco (now ConocoPhillips), Schlumberger (now SLB), NASA, and hundreds of other online businesses and retailers.
I’ve put that knowledge to work. My website boasts first-page positions for coveted competitive photography-related keywords like houston photographer, houston portrait photographer, houston event photographer, and houston product photographer. And before I moved to Houston, I held those same positions in Los Angeles.
I’ve been recognized with 50+ awards from Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI), including four 1st-place, three 2nd-place, and three 3rd-place trophies. I’ve also been awarded the title of Double Master of WPPI.
I’m also a five-time print competition judge at the WPPI Annual 16×20 Print, Album, and Filmmaking Competition in Las Vegas. Additionally, I’ve twice judged at the National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP) International Image Competition and have also judged at the European I Am Photographer Festival.
You may have seen me speak at WPPI, PhotoPlus, PPA’s Imaging USA, National Association of Professional Child Photographers Retreat, Mystic Seminars, the I Am Photographer Festival in Tallinn, Estonia, and online via The Wedding School, Sue Bryce Education, and Jerry Ghionis Photography Training.
I’ve also been an instructor at the Los Angeles Tri-Community Photography School. Finally, I taught college-level English, and that experience, plus my master’s degree in English, come in handy when I teach SEO copywriting.
Pricing
My services are billed at $200 per hour. All photographers start with a 1-hour session. During the session, most photographers receive enough website homework to keep them busy for several months. Some photographers follow up with semi-annual check-up sessions.

I just spent an hour skyping with Rob. While sharing screens, Rob took the time to explain step-by-step how to improve the SEO on my site. We began by reviewing my Google Analytics page together. He made it clear what variables were most important within my WordPress site and how to access them. He also helped me clearly understand the use of meaningful content for my posts. Rob was clear in his explanations and patient with me as I worked along with him to update information. All my questions were answered. We only touched the surface in our session but I feel like I have a good grasp to begin to improve my SEO. I highly recommend Rob’s one-on-one session, and if you are able to attend his future workshops I’m sure the experience would be invaluable and worth every penny. — Erin Kate of Erin Kate Photography
Like many photographer’s, I get daily email’s from “SEO experts” who promise the earth but in reality are nothing more than snake oil salesmen. Therefore I’ve always been deeply skeptical of anyone offering SEO services. Until I came across Rob. He instantly established himself as an expert in his field but also a natural ability to explain things in a way you can understand. Rob has given me lots of ideas and tips on how I can improve my website. Follow his advice and it will probably be the best investment you make for your business. — Martin Cheung of Martin Cheung Photography
SEO is something that has always caused frustration for me. It seems like the rules are constantly changing and there are many people who claim to be ‘experts’. It is hard to determine who you can trust to help in this part of business. The Skype mentoring session with Rob was the best thing I could do to really know what changes were needed for optimizing my business online! Rob was able to take his expansive SEO knowledge and present it in a way that made it easy for me to understand. His tips and tweaks to my website and online presence has already made an enormous impact on my business. I am sure I will be investing in more Skype sessions in the future. — Bethany Walter of Bethany Walter Photography
I had the pleasure of taking a class on SEO from Rob at Good Gallery. I knew that Rob was a Ninja at SEO since I have a good gallery website but I had no idea the amount of knowledge and help that was available from him. If you ever have a chance to take one of his workshops, do it. You will find more insight on the subject than you ever knew was available. He is a great teacher and makes it attainable for those of us that get a headache just thinking about the subject. — Terry Sibert of 24westphotography
I met Rob at Mystic Workshop in Portland, OR, around three years ago, where Rob was showcasing Good Gallery, a new type of website for photographers optimized for SEO. Since signing onto Good Gallery, I have been impressed with the promptness of customer support, and the thoroughness of the “user manual” that is constantly being updated. I really like my website and I get a lot of compliments on it, yet I knew there were improvements to be made. When looking for SEO help, it made sense to use Rob as a consultant since he can directly assist me in optimizing the website he know so well and help keep me on track. We spent a full hour skyping while sharing screens. Rob reorganized my layout and pages and gave me around 10 hours of work to do on my own. I plan on meeting with Rob once a month to assist me in continually optimizing and improving my SEO and website. I don’t know why as photographers we think we have to do everything ourselves. My only regret in working with Rob, is that I didn’t know he offered this service until recently, or I would have done this a long time ago! — Connie Mintz of Connie Mintz Photography
WPPI 2016 was my second trip to Vegas for this wonderful conference. I learnt so much and met so many fantastic people on my first visit, I had to go back again for more! At the top of my list this time was to get a better understanding of SEO which for a long time now has been something I have considered to be a dark art. No matter what I tried, nothing was working. I was languishing down on the third page of Google for my specific keywords… and no one wants to find themselves there! So, I enrolled on Robs platform class hoping to glean just a snippet of information that might help me. The class itself was packed and passed by in a flash. Rob presented in a friendly and informative manner, passing on A LOT of useful information… in fact probably too much to take in over the time available. He also spent time after the class was finished to go through individual questions… something that was much appreciated by many people (myself included). I managed to take a few notes during the class and as soon as I got home I got to work on implementing some of the changes recommended. Of course, getting back from Vegas heralded the start of wedding season, so my work has taken a little longer than I would of hoped but I am now seeing significant results. I have moved up from the depths of third page Google obscurity to midway up the first page for my main search terms. This is HUGE for me… and I hope to make more changes over the coming months to help drive my ranking even higher. Thank you Rob for presenting a very informative and helpful class. I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone looking to understand at least some of the mysteries of SEO! — John Colson of John Colson Photography
I’m thrilled with Rob’s services! I booked a one hour call with him to analyze and improve the SEO of my website, and I received countless tips and ideas to get started on immediately. He’s clearly an expert in the field and keeps up to date with the fast-changing world of SEO. He looked into my website in-depth and gave me very personalized feedback how to improve my website’s rankings and the many things I can implement to strengthen this. Rob took the time to answer all of my questions in detail and even improved some of the words on the back end of my website for me during our session. The time and money spent on this call were priceless, and I look forward to signing up for more one-on-one SEO training with Rob again in the near future. Rob’s an expert resource that will help my business thrive and I’m so glad I chose to work with him! — Helen Don of Helen Don Photography
Rob hit the ground running with us and covered a lot of ground during our one-hour Skype consultation. He reviewed almost our entire website with us, covering everything from little tweaks and tips on what we could do to improve our site ranking, to big picture strategy on how to position our business and improve the user experience. We appreciated that he didn’t hold any punches and was honest and straightforward in his feedback. In fact, the thing that was most helpful about the consultation was how much he focused on “the big picture” rather than little SEO hacks. He helped us see how potential clients would react to our online presence and gave us specific ideas on how to strengthen our brand. — Janna and Kyo of Kyo Morishima Photography
