Top Houston Headshot & Portrait Locations
This planning guide offers an exhaustive list of recommended Houston locations, whether you need headshot photography or portrait photography.
In most cases, you’ll be happiest in locations with fewer people. To that end, early morning sessions and midday weekday sessions work best. For downtown Houston locations, let’s start before businesses open, when the sidewalks are deserted.
It’s easier to create photos free from background distractions at locations with fewer people present. As a professional photographer, I can make any place work, but it’s always easier for everyone if you select ideal locations over challenging locations.
If you prefer multiple portrait session locations, remember that my time is continuous from our start time. Unless I extend my time and account for travel, you’ll receive fewer photos than if we work from a single location.
If you’d like to hit several locations, you might consider having someone drive us between locations so we can hop out, take a few photographs, and then hop back in before we head to the next location.
If you have a location in mind, let me know your preferences. We’ll discuss all benefits, logistics, challenges, and solutions so your portrait photography or headshot photography session will come off flawlessly.
Finally, consider potential temperature, wind, and rain issues, in addition to the best lighting for each location. For example, before you settle on your session start time, check out tomorrow’s sunrise and sunset times.
Permit & Permission Concerns
You can take smartphone pictures almost anywhere. Professional headshot photographers and portrait photographers aren’t so lucky. Our work is restricted at many locations.
Governments often regulate photographer access to public property like parks and government buildings. Similarly, private property owners sometimes enforce professional photography restrictions.
I’ve noted locations where permits are required. Since I’m a rule-following photographer who respects government and property owner rights, I don’t offer guerrilla photography. That means I don’t work in locations without permits or permission when permits or permission are required.
