Getting Ready: Product Photography

Prepare for your product photography session, so you’ll save time, reduce required retouching, and ensure your product photography is better straight out of camera.

The more you prepare before our session, the faster I can complete the work and the less money you’ll spend on your photography.

Unpack Your Products

If your product is inside bags or boxes, remove the objects before you arrive. It takes time to get those products ready when they must first be unpacked.

Clean and Dust

Make sure your products are clean before you arrive. That includes removing dust and getting rid of any smudges, stains, or fingerprints.

Address Wrinkles

If your product wrinkles, get rid of those wrinkles before your project. That means you might need to iron, steam, or flatten those objects. If you don’t, you won’t be happy with your photographs.

Check Labels

If your product has labels, make sure the samples you’re bringing have perfect labels. That means that they shouldn’t have blemishes and that they should be perfectly aligned, both vertically and horizontally, on your product packaging. Some samples—especially prototypes—aren’t always perfect.

Bring Multiple Samples

Products are sometimes damaged in transport, or they might exhibit damage or issues you didn’t notice when you were at your home or office. If you bring multiple examples of each product, we can make sure that only the best one is photographed. I understand that this may not be practical, so choose accordingly.

Inspect Prototypes

If you’re working with prototypes, know that they might have issues. You may need to return for more photographs after you receive your product’s definitive version.
