Rice University Photographer
Rice University is a local photography location offering impressive greenery and architecture. And for their motto, Letters, Science, Art, I’m the art part!
As a Rice University photographer, I’ve worked as an event photographer, headshot photographer, editorial portrait photographer, family portrait photographer, engagement session photographer, wedding photographer, and proposal photographer.
This location offers sophisticated architecture surrounded by live oak trees. It’s rarely a busy location and it offers a hassle-free experience—both in terms of surroundings and parking. It’s my favorite location for photography in the Houston area.
For sunrise or sunset sessions, we can consider the James Turrell Skyspace. There’s a light sequence that begins 40 minutes before sunrise and a sunset sequence that begins 10 minutes before sunset. Each sequence lasts about 40 minutes.
My preferred locations include the areas surrounding Lovett Hall, Sewall Hall, and Herzstein Hall, including the academic quadrangle, founder’s court field, cloisters, live oak areas, and accompanying azaleas.
Only Rice-approved and registered photographers can use this location. In addition to the registered photographer fee I pay annually to remain on their approved campus photographers list, Rice also requires a $50 permit for each session. That permit allows us access for up to 1 hour. I’ll take care of your reservation, and you’ll reimburse me directly for that permit. That permit fee is in addition to your photography fees.
Because of permit registration system limitations, permits always start at the top of the hour. Permits are typically available from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on weekends and holidays during spring and summer, but winter month weekend availability ends at 5:00 PM. On weekdays, the campus is only available after 4:00 PM.
For most portraits, we’ll meet under the arch at Lovett Hall, located at 6100 Main St, Houston, TX 77005. Your best visitor parking option is the Founder’s Court Lot. That lot is adjacent to the Founder’s Court field, located directly in front of Lovett Hall. For most sessions, there is a $10 parking fee. There’s no address for the Founder’s Court Lot, so use the Lovett Hall address and look for the nearby lot.
For event photography, we’ll meet where you need me.
