1.5 hours $975
2 hours $1200
2.5 hours $1375

My hourly rate fees for proposal photography consider my arrival and departure times and planning services. As proposals don’t always happen according to plan, an hourly rate allows additional flexibility when things don’t happen on time.

After your proposal, we can also take couple’s portraits. You’ll want those pretty pictures of you both together. The time you set aside for that work depends on your budget.

Proposal Planning

I will help you carefully plan your proposal. You probably haven’t considered many factors that I’ve seen in my 20+ years doing similar work. Part of my job is to help you do it better.

I’ll assist you with selecting the best time of day, determining the best area and angles at the location you’ve selected, and walking through each of your ideas—even if they aren’t photography-related.

Proposal Ideas

I’m your go-to guy for engagement planning help, unique proposal ideas, and hand-holding assistance.

Although you can hire a professional proposal planner, part of my service is helping you with proposal ideas. I’ve developed several tactics to ensure I don’t give it away to your fiancé.

The Annoyed Photographer

When you arrive, I’ll be at your location pretending I’m photographing something else in the area where you plan to propose. I’ll appear upset that you “walked into my frame.”

You might then ask me to take your photo with your smartphone. I’ll appear annoyed, but I’ll take the photo. Then I’ll walk away, rolling my eyes.

You’ll then hesitate for about 10 seconds and then start your proposal. I’ll quickly turn around and go to work creating your amazing photos.

The Popular Photographer

When you arrive, I’ll be nearby animatedly talking on my phone. That will distract your soon-to-be fiancé from my real purpose of being there to photograph your proposal.

The Portrait Photographer

Another proposal idea is to tell your fiancé you’ve hired a portrait photographer. If they would not believe you were that thoughtful, you can say you were gifted a portrait session by a family member or your employer.

When we arrive at the location together, I introduce myself, and we start walking to wherever we’ve decided you should propose.

Once we arrive, I set you both up in a traditional pose, step back to take the photo, and then pretend my camera has errors. I look frustrated and say, “Can you guys give me a few minutes to figure this out?” then I turn partially away.

You can then turn to your soon-to-be fiancé, shrug your shoulders, and do your thing. I’ll just turn around and start taking photos.

The advantage of this idea is you can ensure that your fiancé is dressed appropriately for photographs—and that doesn’t always happen when you’re making a surprise proposal.

The Restaurant Photographer

One strategy that works amazingly well is for you to coordinate your proposal with the restaurant so I can pretend I’m photographing the location for the restaurant owners.

When you arrive, the host or hostess will mention that they have a photographer working and ask if you would mind being featured and photographed if you happen to end up in front of my camera.

You can propose whenever you’re ready, and I’ll be sneakily hovering nearby to photograph the moment.
